Miracle of Summa

battlefield tour to Karelian Isthmus, Saturday - Sunday from Finland

During this trip we focus on one of the most famous battlefields of Winter War and speak in detail about the first stage of battle of Summa - offensive of the Red Army in Summa in December 1939. The static period of the battle (late December 1939 - end of January 1940) and breakthrough of the Red Army in February 1940 in Summa are also mentioned.

Saturday

05.00 Departure from Tampere by bus (route in Finland Tampere - Helsinki - Porvoo - Kotka - Hamina)
09.00. Border formalities in Vaalimaa
14.00. Excursion in Marjapellonmäki sector (sector of defence of 10th Infantry Regiment). Excursion in Summa village sector (Finnish monument, Finnish field cemetery, Soviet field cemetery, bunkers Sk5, Sk6, Sk7, Sk10 ”Kymppi”, Sk2 ”Terttu” and Sk11 ”Peltola”. Shelter Sk16)
Accommodation and dinner (extra fee) in Vyborg hotel

Sunday

09.00. Departure to Lähde sector
10.00. Excursion in Lähde sector. Miljoonaire bunker, Poppius bunker, Test bunker, monument to men or 3rd Heavy Artillery Battalion, Russian cemetery. Lunch in the field provided by Finnish field kitchen
15.30. Short stop at Taasionlammet sector. Story of the battlefield and of search party activity on the Karelian Isthmus
19.00. Border formalities in Vaalimaa
About 23.00 Finnish time arrival back at the starting point of the journey in central and southern Finland (Driving route Hamina - Kotka - Porvoo - Helsinki - Tampere)

Price of the trip: 95€ + visa fee (price valid in 2006)

The price includes:
transportation, accommodation in double rooms (breakfast is included in the price), guiding on the battlefields.
